Nick Jacobs (Chairman)

Nick Jacobs has more than 40 years’ experience working with retirement funds. Following a long stint with Legal and General (UK), Nick moved to senior management at Legal and General (SA), after which he joined Glenvaal (today Glenrand), eventually taking up the post of managing director.

During his tenure at Glenvaal, Nick was appointed trustee and chairperson of various funds. Since his retirement in 2017, he has been appointed independent trustee of a number of umbrella funds and standalone funds. He is also principal officer of a standalone fund.

David Lawrence Crawford

A graduate of Wits Business School, David Crawford is a member of the Financial Planning Institute. He chairs the Institute of Retirement Funds’ Africa trusteeship and education committee, occasionally writes for leading financial publications, and regularly features on Classic FM’s Classic Business with Michael Avery.

David joined the life and pensions industry in the late 1970s. He provides retirement fund member education through Crawford Employee Financial Guidance, which lists several blue-chip companies as clients.

Hubert Moffat

Hubert Moffat currently serves as independent trustee on six pension/provident funds. A retired businessman, he holds a tertiary qualification from the Associate Chartered Insurance Institute.

Hubert’s career began in 1955 at Deloitte and Co as an articled clerk. He later joined the Royal Insurance Company as an insurance official and broker liaison, before becoming assistant branch manager at Federated Employers Insurance in Johannesburg. Prior to retirement, Hubert was a managing member of Vedder & Moffat CC and Insulpro CC.

David Phillips

After more than 40 years as a chartered accountant “focusing on legal documents and numbers”, David Phillips retired in 2016 as partner at international accounting practice Crowe Horwath.

Although the core of his professional activity involved auditing, David accrued a range of experience in the industry, working on mergers and acquisitions, contract accounting, legal aspects of financial documents, income tax and estates.

David qualified as a chartered accountant in the UK in 1975 and a decade later, after moving to South Africa, converted his qualification to meet local requirements. He also ran his own business, David J Phillips Chartered Accountants, for 13 years and was CEO of Cape Investments Group.

For the past 25 years he has been a trustee of a number of pension funds, and was appointed as a Multilect trustee following his retirement.
